Vice President
Michael Shafer is a retirement professional with over 12 years of experience in the financial services industry. During his tenure at leading Fortune 100 companies, Michael was instrumental in creating and executing new and innovative strategies that led to significant increases in both market share and revenue while driving down the costs of customer acquisition. His unique background in having leadership roles on both the retail and institutional sides of the retirement industry, combined with his broad experience in sales, marketing, operations, and training, make him uniquely qualified to assist WMSI’s clients in successfully accomplishing their asset retention, asset acquisition, and cost reduction objectives.
Previously, Mr. Shafer served as a Corporate Vice President of New York Life Insurance Company and was the head of the Retirement Market team for New York Life's Agency Department. In this role, Michael was responsible for the sales and marketing of IRA rollover and retirement income products, as well as life insurance and long term care insurance products for pre-retirees and retirees for New York Life's agency distribution channel. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Shafer was an Associate Manager with Prudential Retirement Services, where he was instrumental in creating their asset retention strategy for their DB and DC plans, in addition to leading their IRA rollover sales desk. Michael has also spoken at over 30 professional conferences during his career.
Mr. Shafer holds the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL) designations from the American College, and holds FINRA registrations 7, 24 and 63.
