As the rollover marketplace matures, many retirement plan providers are recognizing that they will not be able to retain all distributions in-house because participants are demanding choice. For these providers, the IRA Marketplace is a unique opportunity to generate revenue on "lost cause" rollovers and to leverage alliance partnerships.

In the “lost cause” rollover scenario, participants would first be presented with your proprietary IRA offering. If the participant declined the proprietary IRA offering, the IRA Marketplace option would be presented to the participant, providing access to several alternative IRA provider's products.

If the participant chooses to roll their assets to a marketplace IRA provider, the selected provider would pay the Retirement Services Provider a referral fee for the new IRA rollover account.

In this capacity, RSN enables providers to further asset retention efforts and “monetize” the rollovers they would otherwise not keep by participating in the RSN IRA Marketplace.
